I was born in a mining village in Derbyshire and attended the local secondary school. I had no real idea what to do after leaving school. so followed my brother into engineering. I applied to a local engineering firm and was set on in a fabrication shop, serving an apprenticeship as a plater/welder.
Looking back, this gave me a good start in life and the appreciation of having to working hard for a living, but I felt I could do more. So once I had qualified as a plater / welder I moved onto satisfy my own aims.
After living abroad for a short period I came back to the UK to establish myself a career, and in 1989 I joined South Yorkshire Police.
I completed over 26 years in South Yorkshire Police before retiring with the aim of setting up my own business. Over my police career I have enjoyed most aspects of policing. From starting out as a uniform beat officer, progressing to working in drugs, surveillance, CID and latterly training.
The training was an area that I got a lot of satisfaction from, as I was passing on my skills and experiences to others to enhance their career.
During that period as part of the detective training staff I completed my PTTLS and CTTLS qualifications in teaching before going on to complete my Certificate in Post Graduuate Education in 2012 at Sheffield Hallam University in own time and expense.
Part of my training portfolio included being the force lead trainer and SYP point of contact in Cyber Crime, Open Source Investigation and Internet Security. I instructed officers dealing with serious crime how to search the internet, including social media, both overtly and covertly,
This required knowledge on how the internet worked, how search engine optimisers influenced search results and the information people leave on sites they have visited.
I completed a number of national training courses in order to gain the expertise I now have, and made this a specialism of mine, as I already had a private interest in this field.
During my career I have worked on many high profile and serious investigations, being an advisor to the investigation team re any digital footprint and security used.
Due to my expertise I have previously delivered training in Cyber Security to the Probation Service and Social Services as well as senior Police Command Teams.
